The pattern should correctly have "Down" on beat 4. Given that the OP sounds like a beginner, it's probably worth describing what the notation you use means, as it's quite possible they're not familiar with it. – R.M.
Do you always strum down?
Most people have the pick angled downward towards the floor when they strum. Some people have the pick angle more parallel to the strings, and some people, angle the pick upward. It really doesn't matter.
Do Upstrokes and Downstrokes sound different?
When up-stroking, your had doesn't move in a mirrored motion as a downstroke. It would be like recording something said then reversing it, then try talking backwards. It will sound close but not 100% the same.
