What is a looping machine?

A portable device used in studios and live sets alike, a loop station lets you quickly record a section of your playing or singing in real-time and then play it back on repeat, or yes, on loop.

How does a loop machine work?

Loop pedals record audio that is fed into them using either an XLR cable or a 1/4" instrument cable. They usually capture this audio as a WAV file, either using on-board memory or via an external SD card. They can then instantly play back this recorded audio when a musician steps on one of the pedal's switches.

What does a loop station do?

With a Loop Station, you can plug in a guitar, mic, or other instrument, record a loop on the spot, and then use it as accompaniment for further live playing and/or singing. You can also overdub new performances while the loop plays, a feature also known as “sound-on-sound” recording.
