How are you supposed to hold a guitar neck?
Holding the guitar neck
Your wrist should be relaxed but not hanging too low. The wrist should be bent, but only slightly. If your wrist is bent too much, it will cause problems later on. If you have smaller hands, you're thumb will be positioned further towards the center of the back of the neck.
Is it bad to hold guitar by neck?

How do you hold a thumb neck for guitar?
The proper placement of your thumb should be at the back of the neck, opposite your index finger. Sometimes your thumb will be around your middle finger, but that's fine too. The key thing to remember is that your thumb should generally be pointed upwards, almost perpendicular to the neck of the guitar.
