Why does my forearm hurt playing piano?
Possible causes
Forearm tension (co-contraction) and overly forceful movements may over time lead to pain. As piano playing involves repetitive activity, often at speed and with force, professional pianists in particular are at risk of experiencing some arm or hand pain at some point in their career.
Does playing piano strengthen forearm?
Yes, they do help strengthen muscles in the forearm. If you choose to use them (they come in different strengths - start with the easiest), keep in mind that they only exercise the muscles involved in gripping. Although one could argue that those are the important ones for playing the piano, there is an underlyig trap.
How do you release forearm tension?
Bend your hand downward and gently pull it toward you using your other hand. You'll feel tension in your forearm and elbow. Hold the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds. Relax and return to the starting position and repeat the stretch with your other hand.
