What is the difference between Focusrite 2i2 and Solo?
The big difference here is that the 2i2 has two preamps and Solo only has one. This means that both inputs on the Solo are sculpted by a single preamp, so you won't get as much definition between your inputs as you do with the 2i2.

Upgraded Audio
After 30 years of perfecting their products, Focusrite's 3rd Gen mic preamp is the best Scarlett has ever created. The 24-bit/192kHz converters give your recordings clarity. Plus, its Air mode adds an extra edge to vocals and provides unique, high-end detail.
Is Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen good?
This is one excellent piece of studio equipment. I had an earlier 2i2 a few years ago but sold it, thinking I had no further ue for an interface...but my experience with that unit sold me on Focusrite and the Scarlett line. The 2i2 is just right for me: easy setup, versatile, easy to use and well-built.
Is the Focusrite Scarlett solo any good?
Not bad, but missing key features. Sound quality on the mic and instrument inputs are pretty darn good considering this price point - lots of headroom and clarity even on cheap mics. It has zero-latency direct hardware monitoring too, which is absolutely essential for vocal recording I do have a few issues though.
