A pull through flute swab or a cleaning rod with a lint-free cloth such as silk, micro-fiber or jersey material is fairly standard for cleaning.

Can you clean flute cleaning cloths?

Either way, it is perfectly fine. You want to make sure that you use a very gentle detergent in the washing machine (like Woolite), and do not use fabric softener. If you are hand washing your cloths in the sink, you could also use something like Woolite or even a mild dishwashing liquid.

How do you get a cleaning cloth out of a flute?

If it's stuck in the body or foot joint and the swab is still on the cleaning rod, you can try this: pull gently (but firmly) on the tail-end of the swab while pushing-in on the cleaning rod. That will tend to tighten the cloth to the cleaning rod and make it smaller so that it may be easier to extract.

How do you clean a dirty flute?

I like to use a microfiber cleaning cloth to wipe the outside of the instrument and silk on the inside of the instrument. And when you are finished cleaning the flute, do not leave the cloth inside the body: Keep it outside of the case and allow all moisture to dry.
