Does v go to VII?
V or v chords lead to i, VI or #vi° chords. VI or #vi° chords lead to i, III, III+, iv, IV, V, v, vii°, or VII chords.
What does a vii chord resolve to?
The Subtonic Chord (VII)
The most likely resolution of VII is III, because in the key of III (that is, the relative major) VII would be the dominant. For instance, the VII chord in A minor is a G-major triad, and the III chord in A minor is a C-major triad.
Is VII always diminished?
The (triadic) chord built off the 7th scale degree in a major scale is diminished, yes.
Why is the VII chord diminished?
The vii chord is dissonant because it is framed instead by a diminished fifth: Example 17–2. In our discussions of basic interval progressions (Chapter 12 and Chapter 14), we adhered to the practice of using only consonant intervals.
